Ikat is a resist dye technique, where a pattern is created by preventing or 'resisting' the dye from coloring the entire fabric. Ikat patterns are created on the yarn itself, usually by tying or wrapping bundles of thread together. The fabric is then either woven on a handloom or a semi-mechanised loom.
